A little information about where we live: Monroe was originally known as Upper Rocky Brook. The name was changed
to Monroe in 1912 in honour of Walter S. Monroe qv, whose firm supplied most of the area's fishermen in the early 1900s.
Monroe was a shipbuilding community until the 1950s. The shipyard was owned by Captain Henry Stone and it provided
employment for the residents of Monroe and the surrounding communities. One of the last Newfoundland schooners, the Norma
and Gladys was built in 1945 by Captain Henry Stone of Monroe. The vessel was constructed from local birch. She was 93 feet
long and had a displacement of 133 tons. The "Norma and Gladys" was named after the two daughters of its first captain,
Allen Tucker.

I'm still building my site. I still have lots of work to do, but I've decided to publish what I have completed so far. I
will keep working on this site, so check back.
Here I might add an entry whenever I make an update to my web site. Where appropriate, I'll include a link to the change.
For example: Added new photos to photo album
